Lynch’s Pick (February): When Orton was Great.

We discussed on our last podcast how Randy Orton has never been more boring than he has since they gave him his most recent push. For a while there, he was sort of languishing in the mid card and we were all crying and wishing for the days when they used him in a worthwhile capacity. Then Summerslam happened, and some of us, who had been Orton fans in the past or at least saw his potential, were pleased with his sudden thrust back into the main event picture. However, since then, the main event picture has never been more boring – and whether he is going against Big Show, Cena, or the most exciting guy in the biz right now in Daniel Bryan – somehow the main event is just consistently ‘blah’. When you consider that when Cena and Bryan have been main eventing shows with OThER people (including each other) it HAS been exciting – then it seems to me, that the fault lies almost entirely with Orton himself, or at the very least, their handling of Orton and what they are giving him/directing him to do out there. The stories aren’t exciting, his promos aren’t exciting and the matches are definitely not exciting. Orton has all but lost his shine in the eyes of many. That being said, we talked on the podcast about a time when Orton proved he COULD be great, and I suggested a match from that time. Here is that match (luckily not yet removed from Youtube by WWE). My favorite Orton match, and a match Foley calls one of his favorite in his career. Both men work the crowd perfectly throughout. Just a great match with a lot of high spots. This not only reminds you of a time when Orton was good, but a time when good matches full of big spots were contested on PPV for the IC Title. Throwback for real. Enjoy .
